Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS) will change the method of reading in the future counters, so from June, instead of the current monthly reading, a quarterly reading will be applied.
This was announced by EDS director Biljana Komnenić and added that at the end of February, citizens were able to read and submit their monthly consumption through mobile applications.
"We are starting to apply the Law on Energy, Article 197a, in which the reading is at least once a year, and according to our experience and practice, it is better for users and for the electricity distribution, to read once every three months," Komnenic told RTS.
She added that EDS was working on a mobile application and that there are already more than 220.000 registered consumers who read the meter themselves.
She also stated that EDS has installed more than 600.000 smart meters that can be read on a monthly basis.
Citizens can also apply by email, and from June 1, by calling 0800 360 300.
Reading is not an obligation for citizens, but they were allowed to do so because there were objections to reading. Those who are not used to new technologies can call the call center to provide data, or they can hand in a paper with the read state at each distribution.
However, citizens will still receive bills every month.
"For consumers who have an installed smart meter, the reading will be every month, the electricity distribution will read every month, only the readers will be read every month, users, commercial customers will be read every month, and the rest will be based on an estimate within three months of the consumption we have. The assessment will be done on the basis of historical data and a software model," said Komnenic.
