Someone managed to get a huge boost monument to Stefan Nemanja on the Sava square and pasted a lath crosswise over the sword. It looks like the founder of the Serbian state is holding a cross.
In the video posted on the X network by Marta Mihajlović, manager of the KRIK office, it can be seen that the batten is attached with insulating tape.
Apart from the question of "how did someone get up there", tweeters they wondered if they would charge us additionally for the batten.
"Transfiguration"
It turned out that Andrej Josifovski, a pianist, artist and professor at the Faculty of Architecture, is behind this action.
The Ministry of Culture reacted to the "scandalous incident on Sava Square, where the monument to the great prefect Stefan Nemanja was desecrated by the unacceptable 'intervention' of the artist and professor of the Faculty of Architecture, Andrej Josifovski", as stated in the statement.
The Ministry of Culture strongly condemns this act and assesses that this procedure represents "not only disrespect for one of the most important monuments of modern Serbia, but also vandalism against the historical heritage and dignity of our people."
"This vandalism exudes primitive perfidy, because the sword is allegedly turned into a cross, denying the fact that his student's cross is located on the central part of the pedestal of the monument to Stefan Nemanja," the announcement reads.
The destruction of the monument, as they state, "represents an attack on the foundations of our identity and reminds us that the erection of this monument bothered many people, because it clearly confirmed the Serbian identity of our capital," the statement said.
In a post on social networks, Josifovski explained how he did everything.
Namely, the video shows that it was done with the help of a truck with a crane, which lifted Josifovski, and after that he attached the lath to the sword on the monument with duct tape, so now it looks like Stefan Nemanja is holding a cross.
Thus, the cross was returned to Srtefan Nemanja, which was originally supposed to be in his hand.
Josifovski called that action - "Transformation".
The question remains how he managed to do it in the middle of the day, without the city services and the police intervening.
Why he did that remains an enigma, as is how much the monument cost, because the authorities have not disclosed that information until now.
