"Water and sewerage" company Password on Thursday, due to the change in the color of the water on the river Drina, announced that water sampling and analysis was done at all water sources, which showed that the water is suitable for use and that there are no deviations in the parameters that would indicate any contamination.
Based on the information received, the cause of the change in the color of the Drina River is the increased melting of snow in the area of the town of Zvornik, which has spiraled deposits of bauxite on the way to the river.
That process led to a change in the color of the water, but it did not affect its quality for use.
Bearing in mind the importance of health safety, as well as precautionary measures, the company stated that it will continue sampling and analysis several times in the next 24 hours.
All competent institutions and bodies have been informed and the situation is being continuously monitored, the announcement states, adding that interviews were also held with the people who took samples at the place where this water was poured, and who confirmed that there is no pollution.
In case of any changes, citizens will be informed in a timely manner, according to Vodovod.
Eco Guard claims otherwise
Contrary to the announcement of the Waterworks, from the non-governmental group of citizens, Eco Watch, they state that the cause of the Drina pollution is the company Alumina in Karakaj, Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, as they say, discharges waste water into the river.
Eco guard has published a video on its Facebook page in which they claim to be the source of the pollution of the Drina.
"This company is engaged in the production of aluminosilicate products, among which alumina is the most famous. On their website, it is stated that they have been operating since 1978 and that "since its beginnings, it has been one of the most important and largest industrial complexes in this region," says Eco Guard, along with a video recorded across the street from the village of Donja Borina.
Let's protect Jadar and Radjevina: Criminal complaint against Alumina
The Protect Jadar and Radjevina Association announced on Thursday through its Telegram channel that it filed a criminal complaint against the Alumina company and the persons responsible for the "holiday painting of the Drina in red" to the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Loznica.
In the report, it is stated that the pollution of the Drina "did not only cause damage to the environment, but also disturbed the public, considering the fact that most of the city of Loznica is supplied with water from the water source in Banja Koviljača, downstream from the point of discharge of waste water, which is the water source directly threatened".
