Serbian citizens Veselin Vukotić i Andrija Drašković a new trial for the murder of the Albanian Enver Hadri began in Belgium only on Thursday, January 9, and not, as previously reported by certain Brussels and almost all Serbian media, that the final sentence of life imprisonment had already been handed down to the two of them and the former secret service operative former SFRY to Božidar Spasić
As reported by the Belgian news agency Belga, on Monday in Brussels, a jury was chosen by lot for the new trial of Vukotić and Drašković. The case will be heard by a jury of five men and seven women.
Hadri was a Kosovo political leader. He was shot in the head on February 25, 1990 in Saint-Gilles when the car he was driving stopped at a traffic light.
The false news that the accused of murder had actually already been sentenced began to spread in the region when the Brussels Times portal and the Belga agency announced on January 3 that a Brussels court had sentenced three people to life imprisonment for the murder of Enver Hadri. They withdrew the news on January 8 in the morning hours. During that time, neither the Belgian court nor the prosecution made any announcement.
However, almost all Serbian media, including RTS and research portals, have retained incorrect information on their pages, and the topic has been discussed for days on several television stations, including those with national frequency.
As reported by "Brussels Times" in the deleted text, Veselin Vukotić and Andrija Drašković were found guilty of committing the crime, and Božidar Spasić of ordering it.
Veselin Vukotić (72) and Andrija Drašković (60) were sentenced in absentia in Brussels in November 2016 to life imprisonment for the assassination of Enver Hadri. The jury then determined that these two acted on the orders of the secret services of the former Yugoslavia, more precisely on the orders of Chief Inspector Božidar Spačić. At that time, the court also sentenced the latter to life imprisonment. Then, in 2017, the second-instance court in Brussels overturned the verdict. Veselin Vukotić and Andrija Drašković subsequently appealed and now a new trial has begun.
