A competition has been announced for a program-spatial concept for urban and landscape revitalization of the area between Blagoj Parović, Knez Višeslav, Miloj Zakić and Vladimir Rolović streets in Čukarica
The Association of Belgrade Architects has announced a survey competition for a program-spatial concept for urban and landscape revitalization of the area between Blagoj Parović, Knez Višeslav, Miloj Zakić and Vladimir Rolović streets in Čukarica.
It is about an area opposite the protected natural area "Kosutnjak Forest", with an area of about 85 hectares, where the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education - DIF, Radio Television of Serbia - RTS, the Yugoslav Cinematheque (State Audiovisual Archive of Serbia), the Fire Station, Ministry of Defense - Zastava film, Church of St. Luke the Apostle, legal entities (Košutnjak film doo, Hala sportsova Žarkovo, Avala studios doo) and a number of residential buildings and family house.
The total prize fund is 95.000 euros, and the works will be evaluated by a jury headed by academician and professor emeritus Branislav Mitrović.
Jury members are: urbanist prof. Dr. Zoran Đukanović, architect Bojan Kovačević, MSc, architect prof. Dejan Miljković, architect prof. M.Sc. Vasa Perović, architect prof. Ivan Rašković, landscape architect van. Prof. Dr. Boris Radić, urban planner docent Ivan Simić, Ph.D. and urban planner Jelena Stojkov. Consultants are architect Aleksandar Obradović and scientific adviser from the Institute of Forestry, Dr. Vladan Popović.
On behalf of the jury for the assessment of submitted works, the president of the jury, academician and professor emeritus Branislav Mitrović, pointed out that this area represents an unused urban potential that has been "skipped" in the city's development so far in terms of the discontinuity of the built urban fabric.
"The task of the competition is to find a solution for this space, which is currently under buildings with original purposes that no longer function, in order to integrate the space into the city flows through sustainable projects that include ecological revitalization." This would eliminate the need to occupy new spaces of nature, because the space would be revitalized and transformed as a "brownfield" area for new projects."
He pointed out that the area in question is not within the protected area, but that the architectural-urban solution must be such that it achieves an organic connection with the environment, respecting the cultural heritage and the potential of the location.
"The competition task in particular includes the preservation of the forest stock and greenery in the existing areas, as well as their improvement and expansion through sustainable and environmentally responsible measures", pointed out prof. Mitrovic expressed the hope that the selected competitive solution will enable the potential of this area and its natural features, through possible revitalization, to become available to citizens, which is not the case now.
"For this reason, we expect the articulation of various types of greenery and the possibility of safe movement through such zones, in terms of paths, lighting, so that this space could be experienced as a park-forest of urban vocation", concluded prof. Mitrovic.
The organizer of the competition is the Society of Architects of Belgrade, and the orderers of the competition are Radio Television of Serbia, Košutnjak Film and Avala Studios in cooperation with the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education (DIF) and the Yugoslav Cinematheque - the State Audiovisual Archive of Serbia.
The competition documentation can be downloaded from the link https://konkurs-kompleks-dif-rts-avalastudios-kosutnjakfilm-kinoteka.com, and the deadline for submitting works is March 24, 2025.
