Overeating during the holidays is not uncommon and can lead to various ailments, says nutritionist Ljubiša Knežević. And advises how to get over it as easily as possible
It is celebrated in Serbia from New Year to Saint John. And he often overeats, says nutritionist Ljubiša Knežević. Sarma, baking, Russian salta and other dishes, a lot of alcohol and drinks can lead to discomfort.
"The most common symptoms of overeating are a feeling of heaviness, and often stomach pain, nausea, heartburn, belching," Knežević told our newsletter "Međuvreme".
As he added, healthy people somehow digest it, but those with chronic diseases risk everything from hypertension to stomach ulcers. "Persons suffering from diabetes should pay particular attention to their food intake."
And he recommends not to overdo it with food and drink, not to wait for dinner hungry, not to spill food, increase salad, and reduce fat.
What if we didn't resist?
Whoever did not resist, will notice that his body enters a kind of "hangover" state, just like when he drinks too much alcohol.
"If you couldn't resist the diakonia, the following meals should be light - soup or stew with vegetables and lean meat, salads," said nutritionist Knežević.
"You take in a sufficient amount of water, you can add mint or ginger, which effectively affect the stomach," our interlocutor continued.
Walking is mandatory
The human body is complicated, but in the end it's not that complicated - just like a bank account, it has inflows and outflows. But unlike a bank account, it's good to be at zero.
Therefore, warns Knežević, we should not only be careful about what we eat, but also that we consume enough calories. "It is necessary to go for long walks or engage in lighter physical activities."
"The most important thing is to find the right measure and be in balance between intake and consumption." The balance will contribute to the improvement of metabolism, and then the body will use its natural resources for proper functioning," he concluded.
