Dutch comedian Arjen Lubach reacted in his show Lubach to the recent decision of American television ABC to cancel Jimmy Kimmel's talk show, after the host talked about Charlie Kirk's murder and made fun of it Trump's a reaction to an event that shook the already divided United States of America.
Because ABC is part of a global company Disney, Lubach said at the beginning of the show that Trump has control over big companies, even a giant like Disney.
"Everything has to be done exactly as Trump wants. Everything now has to be MAGA (Make America Great Again)"
Deportation of Aladdin
Lubach then broadcast a satirical compilation of scenes from Disney cartoons.
So Timon and Pumbaa from the children's movie "The Lion King" sing "Hakuna MAGA-ta", instead of the carefree expression "Hakuna matata". It is an allusion to Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again".
In "Beauty and the Beast," Bella's father tells his daughter, "Oh, Bella, you're so hot. If you weren't my daughter, I'd probably date you," a reference to Trump's comment about his daughter Ivanka. These are the words of the current American president, which he spoke in 2006 on The View.
Shortly after the clip aired ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Trump's spokesman said it was a joke and that Trump was "poking fun at himself because of his tendency to date younger women."
At the time of these words, Trump was 60, and his daughter Ivanka was 24 years old.
In the next segment, Lubach showed ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement's) deporting Aladdin while he sings to Princess Jasmine.
"We're not talking about Jeffrey."
Song We Don't Talk About Bruno from the movie "Encanto" was turned into We Don't Talk About Jeffrey ("We don't talk about Jeffrey"), as an allusion to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire convicted of human trafficking, who left behind hundreds of charges of rape and sexual harassment, including minors. Rumors have circulated for years that Epstein had numerous "clients" from among the American elite who visited his notorious island, and Trump promised in his campaign to "drain that swamp" and release files with the names of clients in the "Epstein" case.
However, the story of Epstein has since died down, and many suspect that Trump was somehow connected to the American broker, who committed suicide in his prison cell in 2019. It's no secret that the American president and Epstein knew each other and moved in the same circles, and several photos of them together are publicly available.
Drawing in the MAGA way
The next insert shows the prince from "The Little Mermaid" making vulgar sexual comments about Ariel, which also refers to a number of Trump's infamous statements about women.
In a scene from "Bambi", Bambi's mother tells her son: "Bambi, trans women are women", only to end up on a spit in the next scene.
At the end, Princess Anna from the animated movie "Frozen" tells her friend, Olaf the snowman. As she claims, since Olaf is made of snow, climate change can't be real - another allusion to Trump's comments in which he uses cold weather as an argument that climate change doesn't exist.
By the way, Trump has twice signed the decision on the withdrawal of the USA from the Paris Agreement on climate change. The US joined this agreement in 2015, during the term of President Barack Obama. Trump withdrew from it in 2017, only for his successor, Joe Biden, to re-sign the order to join the agreement in 2021. After being re-elected as president, Trump decided in the first days after his inauguration that the US would withdraw from the Paris Agreement for the second time.
Lubach's parody has gone viral on the internet and is being shared massively on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. According to the Dutch RTL, viewers praised the piece for its bold criticism and compared it to censorship in the American media.
Lubach was already in the spotlight in the US in 2017 when he joked that "Americans should put the Netherlands second".
