A few days after supported the democratic candidate Kamal Harris in the presidential race, Taylor Swift found herself targeted personally – Donald Trump.
The former US president and current Republican candidate for the White House made it clear how he felt about the 34-year-old global pop star, writing on his Truth Social platform in capital letters: "I hate Taylor Swift!".
Although his post didn't directly mention the fact that Swift was supportive Kamali Harris, it is clear that the timing of the announcement is not coincidental as it comes just a few days after Taylor Swift stated in a post on her Instagram profile that she will vote for Kamala Harris and her candidate for US Vice President Tim Waltz in the November elections.
Changed the record.
Although Trump now claims that he "hates" the American singer, this was not the case before. Just last month, he shared an AI-generated image of Taylor Swift in an American costume, where she falsely endorses his campaign, alongside other images promoting the idea that he's won over some of her fans (in the series of photos, two were indeed authentic). “I accept!” Trump wrote when he posted the pictures. Since then, he has denied any responsibility - that is, he claims that he has nothing to do with the photos, because they were created by other people.
Ironically, it's entirely possible that it was Trump himself who challenged Taylor Swift to publicly declare herself. In her post on Instagram, the singer wrote that she was scared by the fake photos circulating on the Internet, and that's why she feels the obligation to say unequivocally that her support goes to the Democrats.
The next morning, Trump said in an appearance on Fox News that he was not surprised by Taylor Swift's words, because "she always seems to support the Democrats." He predicted that she would "probably pay a price for that in the market" and said that he prefers her friend Brittany Mahomes, who leans Republican.
Swift, one of the most popular female music artists in the world, endorsed Joe Biden in 2020. She was born in Pennsylvania, one of the key breakthrough states, and has close to 300 million followers on social networks.
Democrats embrace support
As Trump's announcement circulated online on Sunday, the Harris-Waltz campaign issued a statement titled "Trump's Bad Week (Taylor's Version)." They didn't mention Trump's announcement, but included the titles of 28 Taylor Swift songs in a series of bullet points.
The popular singer's political statements and endorsements have had a significant impact on civic engagement in the past. Swift publicly stated her political views for the first time before the 2018 congressional elections, supporting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as gender and racial equality. Her endorsement of two Tennessee congressional candidates then spurred tens of thousands of people to register to vote.
Why the former president attacks the singer
Donald Trump is known for his fiery, often witty, but also misogynistic statements. Although at first glance, Trump's declaration of hatred towards the 34-year-old pop singer seems funny and even absurd, it opens a more serious question - what makes an old man who has a serious chance of becoming the president of the most powerful country in the world again, spend his time on a one-way "argument" " with a woman twice his age?
Trump devoted much of his campaign to President Joe Biden, who will turn 82 in November, attacking him for not being lucid enough for a new four-year term. In July, after several gaffes by the president and a disastrous TV duel with Trump, the Democrats realized that it was better for Biden to step down and be replaced by someone younger. Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as the first pick.
Thus, the 78-year-old Trump became "the older one" in this race, and all the arguments he used to fight against Biden not only fell into the water, but were turned against him.
Even earlier, some psychologists also asked questions about Trump's mental state. Harry Segal, a senior lecturer in psychology at Cornell University, one of America's most prestigious institutions of higher education, said in April that Trump was showing signs of dementia.
"I think of this cognitive decline as an added layer of danger in a person who is already unstable and should not be anywhere near the White House," Segal said. His comments came after several mental health experts, who have also been critical of Trump, said he was suffering from symptoms of dementia.
One of them is Dr. Lance Douds, Emeritus Supervising Analyst of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and retired professor from Harvard Medical School.
He said that "unlike normal aging, which is characterized by forgetting names or words, Trump constantly shows something completely different: confusion about reality."
Is there any reason to worry
The main target of dementia accusations until July was Joe Biden, who is now carefree in the White House awaiting retirement. Trump, on the other hand, is not even thinking about retirement. If he secured a second presidential term, he would end it as an 82-year-old.
The psychological analyzes of Donald Trump are certainly not over. Feuding with Taylor Swift isn't the only bizarre thing the Republican candidate has done recently. At one point during the debate with Kamala Harris, Trump went into a furious monologue in which, among other things, he said that migrants from Haiti are eating Americans' pets.
Kamala Harris listened to it with a smile. And indeed, at first glance, Trump's controversial statements sound ridiculous. However, if one understands the importance of the office he is fighting for and the fact that many of the words of the former American president are taken seriously - laughter gives way to concern.
