Zvezdara Theater decided to support the student protest by playing matinee plays for students, but also to continue playing already scheduled evening plays during the seven-day strike of the actors.
This decision was made in agreement with the ensembles of performances that were planned in the repertoire for February during the announced days of the strike.
They explain that "Zvezdara Theater" does not have permanently employed actors and that is why they do not belong to any union that would announce a strike in their theater.
The first motive for such a decision is support for students, and the second is respect for the audience who bought tickets for the Zvezdara Theater performances, waiting for months.
The director of the Zvezdara Theater, Dušan Kovačević, stated that plays were performed in that theater during the nineties of war, bombing, under sirens and that they never stopped except when the state forbade plays to be played.
"The theater has never abolished itself. We have witnessed that every night after the performance, the audience greets the students with a standing ovation. "When the theater closes, the message can no longer be sent to anyone," Kovačević said.
From February 13 to 19, six matinee performances will be played from 17 p.m. They are:
"It doesn't let go when you catch it", "Osama - Kasaba in New York", "The widow of a living man", "The Book of Milutin", "House" and "Sports Heart".
The play "Fairy Tale of the Theatre", scheduled for February 10 and 11 in the evening, is cancelled, and the rest of the plays are played according to the already established repertoire for February, the announcement stated.
