Except for the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Theater in Belgrade is also on strike.
As the National Theater announced on its website, due to the Orchestra going on strike, all performances of the Opera and Ballet in the period from March 5 to 9, 2025 are cancelled. It is added that the performance status of the performances will be announced after the specified period.
The strike of the Orchestra was declared by the decision of the employed members of the Union of Music Artists of Serbia.
As Boris Postovnik, the president of this union, told the "Vremena" portal, the strike was organized for an indefinite period, at least for five days.
With the management of the National Theater, they will try to resolve three demands: professional health examinations, compensation for the rental of instruments and new uniforms, which they have not received for 20 years.
They expect the Ministry of Culture to resolve only one request, an increase in salaries.
"We have already discussed this with Minister Nikola Selaković, and presented him with a wealth of information on this issue," says Boris Postovnik.
In this context, it is not bad to know that the salaries of musical artists in Kosovo are higher than in Serbia, and that, in all likelihood, Pristina will get the Opera House before Belgrade.
It is expected that the Choir of the National Theater will also announce a strike from March 15, when there will be a protest rally in Belgrade.
For March 7, when the students called Serbia for a general strike, the artistic ensembles of the National Theater are preparing a performance in front of their building.
Before the Orchestra, in they were actors in the seven-day strikeii ballet ensemble of the National Theatre.
This is the first strike at the National Theater after 22 years.
The Belgrade Philharmonic is on strike from March 3, until further notice, until the demands are met.
