Board Bitef Festival at today's meeting (May 22) accepted the list of performances for this year's edition of the festival, which he proposed Spasoje Ž. Milovanović Chairman of the Board and selector.
He says to "Vreme" that he still cannot reveal the titles of the plays he has chosen because "the agreement with the Board is to wait for the selector's explanation of the program."
Until then, he can only say that he is "satisfied with the choice in these circumstances" and that he had the support of both the Board and the City. "It is clear to everyone that a festival like Bitef must survive, so they behaved accordingly," he says.
Milovanović does not want to confirm whether we will see six or seven plays at Bitef this year, as is rumored. He just says that he managed to bring "the ensemble of the play" and that "they come from all over the world, not only from the region and Belgrade.
"Bitef is the most exciting festival of international theater and deserves the best performances in the world," says Milovanović.
Budget increase
When asked how he managed to put together the selection with only 20 million that Bitef received from the City Secretariat this year, he says that "they managed to get another five million". We remind you that the Ministry's competition is ongoing, so it is possible, why not, to hope for money from that source as well,
By the way, as we know, the financial plan of this year's Bitef has not yet been adopted.
Spasoje Z. Marković did not become the selector of Bitef by appointment in the City Assembly, but the Board decided that he is the selector.
According to the Decision on Amendments and Supplements to the Decision on Permanent Manifestations in the Field of Culture of Importance for the City of Belgrade, the festival program is selected by the Board, which can hire an associate for that job. This Board tried to take advantage of that opportunity by proposing the director Andraš Urban as a selector, but the City Assembly rejected them.
"We started choosing plays late, and I am extremely pleased that we succeeded," says Spasoje Ž. Milovanović, selector and president of the Bitef Board.
Apart from him, the Board also includes Uroš Mijatović, acting director of Bitef Theater Filip Gajić (instead of Miloš Latinović who was dismissed), Ana Veljković and Srđan Obrenović from the Belgrade Drama Theatre.
