This weekend, in "Krsmanac", the Belgrade premiere of the contemporary dance performance "At the End" about the conquest of freedom and the consequences of liberation
In addition to Bitef, Belgrade Dance Festival, Bitef Dance Company, Institute for Artistic Dance, DAH Theater, Stanica, Mimart... contemporary dance still does not have a place on our stage as it has for a long time around the world. It is true that the performances are usually full, but it is believed that they are always watched by the same people, that, like ballet or opera performances, and contemporary dance are mostly attended by those who understand its language.
This weekend, March 2 and 3, is the Belgrade premiere of the contemporary dance performance "At the End" whose goal is to overcome the aforementioned obstacle. It is being played in the "Branko Krsmanović" Academic Theater. The choreography and dramaturgy are by Mina Ćirić, the music is by Vladislav Velkovski, and the actors are Vanja Višnjić, Tanja Ivanov, Nikola Pušičić and Mina Ćirić, members of the Pocket Troupe.
"Finally" is the story of four marionettes and their conquest of freedom. As they try to break free from the threads that control them, they will find the forgotten skills of Trust and Compassion. They will realize that they have the power to choose who they hand over the reins of control to. Maybe my friend. Maybe to yourself.
"Now, what does it even mean to be free?" Do we know what we want when we want freedom? Freedom implies responsibility, it is important for me to say that with this play. Control doesn't disappear, you just take it over, which is definitely not "just". Ultimately, the marionettes will discover the freedom to choose. Which means they have to restore the forgotten power of trust in others, and that is not easy. But they will be free to be close to whomever they want, and to be honest with themselves. Terrible threads of control will become unbreakable threads of trust," Mina Ćirić explains why her play concerns each of us.
The play premiered in October 2023 in Novi Sad, as part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture festival, and was supported by the European Capital of Culture.
