The famous Sergei Polunin, a Ukrainian-Russian ballet artist, is playing tonight in the ballet "Raspuchin" in the renovated Blue Hall of the Sava Center.
The ballet "Raspućin" was created in Belgrade, where rehearsals were also held, and after more than 70 performances in different countries, the Belgrade audience will be able to see it for the first time - tonight.
On this occasion, Sergej Polunin held a masterclass in Madlenianum with students of the final years of the "Lujo Davičo" Ballet School, as well as a conversation with other students of ballet schools from Belgrade, Pancevo and Zrenjanin.
As it was announced, Polunjin led the young Serbian players through the masterclass with great joy, because he himself supports young talents through his foundation.
When asked how he decided to establish a foundation under his own name and what his role is in it, he said that he got the idea in Belgrade, while he was filming the film "The White Crow" directed by Rafe Fiennes about the famous ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.
As he himself was a scholarship recipient of the "Rudolf Nureyev" Foundation, realizing the importance of support at the beginning of his career, he initially financed talented players himself for several years, and then founded the "Polunjin" Foundation in Belgrade. Several scholarship holders are already in ballet companies in Europe, and one of them, Jana, returned from studying in Vienna to dance in Belgrade. Polunjin comes to Belgrade at least once a year to present his foundation and collect funds for it at a donor dinner.
He also shared his experience of creating new productions, collaborating with top authors and choreographers, pointing out the specificity of his combination of classical ballet art with modern expression, with inserts of folklore, acrobatics, hip-hop and other genres in his productions.
Polunin is in the title role, Alexei Lyubimov is Tsar Nicholas II, Elena Polunin, Sergei's wife, plays Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, John Cook is Prince Felix Yusupov, while Tsarevich Alexei is played by Jaromir Furayev. The choreographer of that spectacle is Yuka Oishi, the music was composed by Kirill Richter, the stage designer was Oto Bubenicek, and the costumes were made by the famous Russian fashion designer Uliana Sergenko.
