September will be the month of festivals in Belgrade this year: Fest, Bitef, March Festival, "Seven Magnificent"... Unless the City Assembly decides that some of them will take a break this year
Festivals held in Belgrade during the calendar year in decades of constant appointments, this year they are planned in September.
Or, it can also be said this way: except for the International Feature Film Festival - DOK, the Belgrade Game Festival and Beldocs, all other festivals in the capital will be held in September. DOK was held from January 30 to February 2, the Belgrade Games Festival has just ended, and it lasted in March and April as always, Beldocs will be from May 21 to 27 also as always, while Fest, Bitef, March Festival, "Magnificent Seven" are planned for September and the first days of October.
The Fest Board decided that instead of February, as it is now, this festival will be held from September 12 to 23, expecting that the City Assembly will appoint an artistic director or selector by then.
Almost at the same time, from September 18 to 25, another film festival is scheduled - European feature-length documentary film "The Magnificent Seven", which is otherwise his usual term.
The "Seven Magnificent" will be followed by another documentary film festival, the truth of the short film: The Board March Festival decided at the session on Wednesday that the new term will be from September 30 to October 5.
Bitef has been held until now, for the past 58 years, at the end of September. The board of this festival is currently deciding on this year's festival, including the date, so it has not been specified at the moment.
At that time, the October Salon, the biggest art event in the country, usually started, and Bemus, the biggest international music festival, started on the first days of October. The committees of these events have not yet announced about this year's editions.
There is also a Book Fair in October.
Why did festivals rush to September? Because the second option, to give up this year's edition, does not suit them.
This festival crowd in September does no one any good. Neither the audience nor the culture, and the whole thing seems like a delay in work.
Who is to blame? Festivals are not. They did their part of the obligation and work on time, but they cannot realize it until the founder, that is, the City Assembly, enables them to do so. That is, until he decides what will happen to them this year. And will some take a break?
