Traditionally, Serbia does not have its own stand at the Bologna Fair this year, the world's largest children's book fair. Her publishing house is self-initiated by "Kreativni centar", "Laguna" and "Pčelica".
The 62nd International Children's Book Fair in Bologna opened today, where more than 1400 exhibitors from around a hundred countries from all over the world are presenting themselves.
Serbia does not have its own stand at this largest international children's book fair. Since 2000, "Creative Center", "Pčelica", and since last year "Laguna" have been participating in the Bologna Fair on their own initiative and independently (read: without state assistance).
Creative center
Ljiljana Marinković, director of the Creative Center, points out that they regularly exhibit at book fairs in Bologna and Frankfurt.
"These are large business fairs where you can see everything that is published for children in the world. I can say that our company does quite well in this multitude of publishers - we are certainly not the biggest, but we are recognizable. The language of good ideas and good illustrations is universal. In thirty-five years of work, more than a hundred books of the Creative Center have been translated into over thirty languages and published in more than sixty countries."
The "Creative Center" will present to colleagues at the Bologna Book Fair, among others, six award-winning novels published in English, translated by Nataša Srdić: Petra really left. i Black bird Aleksandra Jovanović, The summer when I learned to fly i Everything is OK Jasminka Petrovic, Dandelion hunter Vesna Aleksic and Everything I (didn't) want Dragana Mladenović.
Laguna
"Laguna" is presenting its production at this year's Fair in Bologna "in collaboration with the foreign partner Books Everywhere in a hall where there are mainly English publishers for children, so we have a significant position right next to the world-famous publisher Bloomsbury", Nevena Milojević, literary agent of "Laguna", told the "Vremena" portal.
She adds that "the performance of 'Laguna' in Bologna is an important project that increases the visibility of Serbian writers on the world market and their interaction with new readers."
From the titles presented by this publisher, Nevena Milojević singles out a few that aroused the interest of those present in Bologna already on the first day. He says they are Hilarious physics, Hilarious chemistry, Hilarious mathematics, Hilarious history i Hilarious biology attracted the attention of "foreign agents because in these books writers and scientists joined forces to bring these fields closer to children in an entertaining and educational way."
Then, "there is also great interest in picture books from the series Singi Lumba, by our famous designer Slavimir Stojanović Futra, and Tamara Lujak's books were also well received. Dictionary of Slavic mythology (stories and legends) i Dictionary of Serbian mythological creatures (stories and legends), said Milojević.
Bee
From "Pčelica" they state that they are presenting a large number of new titles in Bologna: two comics about Labradors Archie and Dora, an illustrated book Hachiko: a story of loyalty, two new titles from the edition Fairy tales and myths of the peoples of the world: Scheherazade i Romulus and Remus, and many illustrated books.
And they especially single out the biographical book about Hans Christian Andersen from the edition Little books about great people, which will be given special attention because this year marks the 220th anniversary of the birth and 150th anniversary of the death of the great Danish fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, whose birthday, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.
Let's repeat: the aforementioned publishers present their production, but above all they are an example of publishing for children from Serbia, even though it does not co-finance them.

In the frenzy of political events and dramas in Serbia, ten days ago, a spectacular multi-level event brought together academia, politics, architecture, Europe, Novi Sad, micropolitics and a top artistic event. The news that Vladan Joler, artist, professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and founder of the "Share" foundation, won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture resonated as if it were some kind of collective victory, or at least the promise of a good outcome.
