Musicians across Serbia have decided to stop working in support of the student protests, announced the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad, the National Theater in Belgrade and the Belgrade Philharmonic.
In solidarity with to students who are in the blockade, as well as all citizens who are fighting for a fairer and more equal society, the musicians of three major cultural institutions stop working.
Opera Orchestra Serbian National Theatre stopped work on February 20, and during this week and the next, the musicians will go on strike Belgrade Philharmonic, Choir and Orchestra of the National Theatre in Belgrade, as well as members of all musical ensembles of the Serbian National Theater, which will extend the suspension of work to key cultural institutions throughout Serbia.
With this strike, the musicians want to draw attention to the importance of students' commitment to the functional and honest work of institutions and point out that it is, first of all, a way to strengthen the collective political consciousness of citizens, and not a mere interruption of work, according to the announcement.
It is emphasized that the strike is a call to action and a reminder that art has always played an important role in the fight for a better society.
"It's time to realize that art, culture and education are not luxuries, but the foundations of every healthy and developed society," said the Serbian National Theatre, the National Theater and the Belgrade Philharmonic.
