The Ministry of Culture was blocked by people who produce culture from the independent scene and from institutions and institutions of culture, with the aim of unitedly fighting for change
The Ministry of Culture is occupied by a large number of cultural workers on Monday from 13 p.m.
The intention was to enter the building at Vlajkovićeva 3 in Belgrade, but the building was locked. The gathered citizens are protesting in front of the Ministry building. They placed the banner "All power to plenums" on the door.
Vlajkovićeva Street is closed to traffic and filled up to Kosovska and the fountain on Nikola Pašić Square.
The crowd is led by drummers, and the banner "We will not participate in this play that you are directing."
The planned plenum is held in front of the building. The topic is "Why culture is locked".
The blockade is organized by "Culture in Blockade", a newly formed initiative that brings together artists from both the independent scene and those who work in cultural institutions and institutions.
The goal is a common struggle not only for changes in culture but also for changes in society.
FDU, Belgrade Philharmonic, National Theater Ballet and Orchestra, Terazije Theater, Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia are present... There is also the famous Konstructa, actors Ivan Jevtović, Darko Tomović, Miloš Timotijević, writer and screenwriter Vladislava Vojnović, publisher Zoran Hamović...
Those gathered had support from certain windows of the Ministry.
After a fifteen-minute silence to honor the victims of Novi Sad, the blockade began. It will last until 15 hours and 30 minutes until the end of the working hours of this institution.
In the announcement by which Culture in Blockade announces its action, it is written that, among other things, their blockade of the Ministry is a protest:
"Because of the Philharmonic musicians who were run over by cars, as well as because of the male and female students who were trampled and viciously attacked with baseball bats!"
Because of the destruction of cultural heritage, the demolition and sale of the General Staff building and deletion from the list of cultural assets!
Due to long-term degradation and marginalization of culture!
Due to 0,67% of the budget allocated for culture, which is one of the proportionally smallest budgets for culture in Europe.
Because of the non-transparent procedures for the distribution of funds and the allocation of money along party lines.
Because of general privatization and commercialization, not only in the field of culture, but also in the whole society!
Because we don't want to live in a society based on inequality, arrogance, vulgarity and a culture of fear!"
