Rača: Cyrillic Museum opened
The Cyrillic Museum, a unique national institution, was opened in Rača near Baja's garden, in the monastery of which there was a famous copying school.
The memorial museum of Nadežda and Rastka Petrović is not open even now, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the painter's death, just as it is not open in 2023, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of her birth.
110 years ago, on April 3, she died of spotted typhus as a war nurse at the Valjevo Hospital Nadezhda Petrović, a great painter who introduced modernism to Serbian art.
In December last year, the works on reconstruction of the Memorial Museum Nadežda and Rastko Petrović, and Minister Nikola Selaković announced on that occasion that it will be open to the public in February.
It is now April, and in the National Museum, which inherits the Memorial House of the Petrović brothers and sisters, they say that the works are in the final phase, but that they do not know when the public will be able to see the exhibition of the legacy of the great painter and great poet.
It is the second anniversary of Nadežda Petrović, which was not a big enough occasion for the final opening of her legacy.
The first was in November 2023 - the 150th year since the birth of Nadežda Petrović. Instead of being completed and opened, the restoration of the painter's house had just begun. The then Minister of Culture, Maja Gojković, said that the start of work on the anniversary was a symbolic gesture. The public said that it was the result of media pressure.
About the Petrovic house
Ljubica Luković, sister of Nadežda and Rastka, donated the family house at Ljubomir Stojanovića 25 and all her legacy to the National Museum so that a Memorial Museum could be opened there.
In order to create the conditions for the exhibition, in 1974 works were carried out according to the project of the architect Milan Pališaški, and in that year the Memorial Museum of Nadežda and Rastka Petrović was declared a cultural monument by the decision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade.
The following year, as a museum within the National Museum in Belgrade, the Memorial Museum was opened to the public.
Due to years of disuse, it was in extremely poor condition. The outer walls were falling off, the roof structure and gutters were rusted, there were holes in the ceiling, plaster was falling off the walls, and in some parts bricks were visible.
Then, as unsafe, it was closed and for 37 years it fell into disrepair. Now it has been renovated, but it is still closed.
The fund of the Memorial Museum consists of exceptional works by Nadežda and Rastko Petrović - thirty of Nadežda's capital art works, seven watercolors by Rastko Petrović, his library, gramophone records and travelogue films, important manuscripts of Ratko Petrović, works of key protagonists of historical avant-gardes such as Picasso, Kiessling, Modigliani, Ernst and others, as well as inspiring art objects of various purposes, aesthetic and utility values, along with ethnological objects belonging to cultures African and American peoples.
All exhibits from this Memorial Museum are stored in the depot of the National Museum.
