During his visit to Kovačica, Vučić was presented with a painting by Martin Jonas, even though it is under UNESCO protection. That's why the citizens of Kovačica are asking for that painting to be returned to them
On the Facebook page of the informal and independent association of citizens Naša Kovačica, the post "A naive picture was stolen from the Memorial House of Martin Jonas" was published!
It's about the following.
On Saturday, President Aleksandar Vučić visiting the South Banat region, visited Kovačica. He visited there first Martin Jonas Memorial House and received as a gift the painting "Pillars of Life" by this world-renowned naive painter, and then he spoke with citizens in the House of Culture.
The citizens of Kovačica are now demanding that Vučić return that painting.
"We, the undersigned citizens, with our signature on this Initiative, demand from the National Council of the Slovak National Minority to revoke the gift made to the President of the Republic of Serbia in Kovačica on March 08, 2025 in the form of an artistic painting by the author Martin Jonas entitled Pillars of life dimensions 88 x 54 cm, year of creation: 1982, technique: oil on canvas, filed under registration number 57, and we demand that the revocation be done immediately, without delay, and no later than within three days of receiving this initiative."
They consider that the alienation of this painting "as a gift to the President of the Republic of Serbia, is illegal and we demand that you immediately revoke such a gift and demand that the painting be returned to the fund without delay, where it belongs."
Nobody asked us.
They are also demanding the resignation of the president of the National Council of the Slovak National Minority, Dušanka Petrak, "as an act of moral responsibility for the illegal alienation of the said painting, since the painting was alienated outside the prescribed decision-making procedure in the National Council of the Slovak National Minority and without any consent of the citizens of Kovačica".
Cleaning the forge
"The citizens of Kovačica were not asked if they wanted a painting from the fund of the Martin Jonas Memorial House to be donated in their name, so here they expressly declare that they are against such an act."
Let us remind you that the citizens of Kovačica welcomed President Vučić with whistles, and the day after his visit they organized an action to clean up the place.
