Last week, Nataša Mihailović Vacić resigned from the post of City Culture Secretary, and Jelena Medaković, director of the City Museum, was appointed. Many who create the capital's culture saw this choice as a good sign.
In a statement to the Tanjug agency, the first for the media from the position of the Secretary of Culture of the City, Jelena Medaković also said Bitefu i Festa.
She said that she believes that after this "inconvenient year" an environment will be created in which artists will be able to work.
"For us, it is very important that the institutions present themselves as well as possible, that they give their maximum. Belgrade is the most important city in the region, but also an international city whose culture is extremely important on the map of this part of Europe, and in some areas, of the whole world," assessed Medaković.
According to her, we need to market culture internationally, and in the best way, and in order for that to happen, it is first of all necessary to create an environment where artists can create.
Emphasizing that "without modern creativity, there is nothing that people will study in the future", Medaković added that "this is why institutions have to do their job in the conditions they are in".
Medaković reminded that many city manifestations "last more than half a century and are a trademark of the city and our cultural scene."
Bitef and Fest
That's why they "must not collapse and must be presented to the public in their full capacity, not as small reminders of former big festivals. On the contrary, as real, big festivals," Medaković pointed out.
According to her, after the opening of the renovated Sava Center, there is a possibility that FEST will look like "in the old days, when world artists visited it and the audience from the region flocked to see his films".
"I believe that the atmosphere will change slowly, and I really have the good will and intention to contribute to that."
Speaking about holding the upcoming Bitef, Medaković announced a more detailed analysis with the Board in order to "determine some dates". This is necessary, she said, so that in the event that the dates are moved, "all festivals will take place in the best possible capacity and light".
