The premiere of the play "The Widow of a Living Man" by Dušan Kovačević in the "Zvezdara Theater" on Saturday is the highlight of the program that this Belgrade theater celebrates his fortieth birthday.
At the same time, "Laguna" published the fifth book of Dušan Kovačević's collected plays "Professionalac", in which his latest play "The Widow of a Living Man" was also published.
"Several stories are interwoven, and the central one is about violence." Violence happens when the authorities do not do their job and people take over the role of justice. It is about violence against women and against the weak in general. Everything I'm talking about would be terrible if it wasn't seasoned with comedy so that it could be watched and listened to," Kovačević said about "The Widow of a Living Man".
Dušan Kovačević is also the director of his text. As he explains, this play was not created with the intention of being part of the celebration, but considering that he had been writing it for a long time, it came at the right time to be performed in honor of 40 years of theater.
"The story is perhaps hidden in the title 'The Widow of a Living Man.' It may be a slightly ironic title, but when you watch the play you will see that it is quite accurate. The subtitle is more indicative, and it reads: Rewriting life."
Kovačević explains that "this is an event in which several streams and stories are intertwined, and more or less stories about violence and that is connected to all my pieces - and it is mainly the threat of a person or family from some kind of violence. Is it from the state apparatus, a group that exercises coercion, and man fights against it in various ways."
In this piece, violence is solved by something that is "very important and important to Kovačević, which is that when the state does not do its job, then people take over the role of the state and carry out the execution."
"It is actually about something that has become an epidemic in our country - violence against women and against the weaker in general." And when someone complains to someone, and he does not react or protects the violence, then it happens that someone solves the problem privately. All this would be terrible and horrible, if my dramas and films were not seasoned with comedy, so it could be watched. In fact, this is a rewriting of life and I tried to make it look like life today," Kovačević explained.
Jelena Đokić, Sunčica Milanović, Nela Mihailović, Miodrag Krstović, Anđelika Simić and Dušan Tomić play in his play.
"The Widow of a Living Man" is the 94th premiere of "Star Theater".
