Is there money in the budget for culture?

Neither the Ministry nor the City Secretariat for Culture have announced the results of the competition for co-financing projects, although the deadlines have long been exceeded, so the question arises as to whether there is any money for culture in the budget at all

At the end of January, the Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade announced a competition for funding or co-financing from the budget of the City of Belgrade for projects in culture, as well as artistic, professional and scientific research projects in culture, the implementation of which is scheduled for 2025.

That was good news for everyone who realizes the culture of the capital, especially since the City did not announce a competition for culture last year, so everything produced in that area was self-financed.

This year, the City Secretariat announced a competition for 13 areas of culture.

"The results of the public competition are published on the official website of the City of Belgrade, which announces the public competition, no later than 60 days after the end of the submission of applications," the announcement reads.

The deadline for submitting projects was February 19. The results have not been released even though the deadline passed 10 days ago.

The Ministry of Culture of Serbia announced 28 tenders at the end of December, and the deadline for submission of projects was the first days of February.

What is the deadline for the publication of the results is not specified in any of those announcements. It is only indicated that "the results of the competition will be published on the official website of the Ministry of Culture. In this way, the Ministry of Culture will inform the public and applicants about the results of the competition."

However, those who are vitally interested in the contests, the Ministry of Culture did not take this inaccuracy as a bad thing - it is understood that the deadline for the publication of the results is 60 days, as stated in the law. Which means that it is also known that the deadline was exceeded at the beginning of April.

At the same time, they do not even hope that this year's competitions of the City Secretariat and the Ministry of Culture will be realized. They expect that at some point they will receive an announcement that the contests are being canceled - because there is no money for culture in the budget.
