Since when? two days ago the confirmed news that the Government of Serbia appointed Dragoslav Bokan, a person with a criminogenic past and a wartime commander for president of the Board of Directors National Theatre, the extremely angry numerous comments of individuals and organizations do not stop.
The Association of Theater Critics and Theatrologists asks what Dragoslav Bokan recommends for the position of president and why the replacement of the members of the Board of Directors of the National Theater in Belgrade was made after an undoubtedly successful work so far, due to several successful seasons of all three artistic units of the theater.
"Which references in the field of theater art were imposed as a good solution by the people who now make up the Board of Directors of the National Theater?"
The association states that the Government's decision will remain marked by suspicion that "the motive of the decision-makers on the appointment of new members is contained in the idea of applying repression to the field of culture and contemporary creativity, and above all theater art", and points out that "due to all of the above, the public will remain convinced that the Government's decision is an expression of the government's arbitrary attitude towards culture and the politicization of its extremely important segment - theatrical creativity".
The Serbia Center Party (SRVE) believes that "by appointing Dragoslav Bokan as the President of the Board of Directors of the National Theatre, the government exchanged a century and a half of Serbian culture created under the roof of that institution for a handful of media support for the country, image and opportunity of the current regime".
"One of the key places of our culture, through which 150.000 spectators pass annually, was appointed a man who stood out for his hate speech in previous decades, and now he is recognized as the most ardent defender of the government, for which culture is the 'last hole in the pipe' and an expense, not one of the most important resources of our nation," says SRCE.
