No one knows if there is another world, but there is no justice for Slavko Ćuruvija here.
The verdict is what it is, the accused have been legally acquitted and nothing more can be done. It is only certain that Ćuruvija was brutally murdered. Although, as things have turned out, that fact may also be called into question.
But as long as the accused were also convicted, the steel rule of all trials for political liquidations in Serbia would remain in force. It reads: if the perpetrators and immediate organizers are prosecuted, the court will never establish their instigators. This was the case during the assassination of Vuk Drašković on the Ibarska highway and in Budva, the kidnapping and murder of Ivan Stambolić and now, at the trial for the liquidation of Slavko Ćuruvija.
Former members of the State Security from the nineties usually know everything - especially when it comes to geopolitics - but they have no idea about the Unit. Why? The trial for the brutal murder of Ćuruvije explains. Namely, first the civilian members of the Service conduct an intelligence observation of the "subject" and disappear, and then the Legion and its henchmen arrive in the stench of sulfur.
Whether "civilians" know what they are doing or not - no matter how you look at it - they are complicit in the crime. That's why the conspiracy of silence stronger than omerta in Sicily arose - everyone outside the Unit later claims that they had no idea about anything and that they were just carrying out a routine order.
The verdict regarding the murder of Slavko Ćuruvije confirms the slogan that political gangs come and go, but the Udba/State Security/BIA remains. When it thickens like after the Fifth of October, the Service dives deep and becomes the main generator of chaos and destabilization of the state; when understanding authorities like the current ones come, it is again the state's pet in a way similar to the one in the nineties.
It is enough to look at the case of Jovanjic and, in particular, the paramilitary formation of Milan Radočić in the village of Banjska, so that it becomes clear to everyone that the Service is once again riding the same tracks as during the time of Slobo Milošević and his wife Mira.
Which is more natural? Two things.
The first - while protecting old clients at all costs, the Service offers new ones at the same time and is always ready for "services of a special kind". Few can resist that siren call, initially presented as something ordinary and benign. Later, it was too late, mutual dependence was created, especially when the Service provides inviolability. Of course, provided that everything remains the same except for the new ficus tree, the color of the painted wall and the company car.
And another thing - if Rade Marković, Legija and his team from the Unit are excluded to some extent, the blood of which no rain could wash off, the Service successfully protects its personnel. Otherwise, who would engage in illegal measures, provide security for Jovanjica, persecute honest policemen, allow or even enable Radoičić to form a paramilitary formation and much more?
That's how it was then, and that's how it is today. And to you, Slavko, may the black earth be easy.
