"Kragujevac, my shirt," he exclaimed Milos Obrenovic before the people in 1858, starting the second reign. He knew what he was talking about. There is something in this city, where modern Serbia was born, that makes sincere patriotism overcome the toasty and convenient one. It is enough to stand in front of the humble, peasant Old Assembly, and the reader will wonder why.
Of course, like other citizens of Serbia, the people of Kragujevac do not live history, but lives under a government that normalized the abnormal, criminalized kindness and solidarity, exalted arrogance and lawlessness. In the same way, the inhabitants of that city are not immune to various deviations, like the whole country. And yet, in almost all the turning points, Kragujevac turned into a symbol of the people's will and the fight for justice. That's how it was two hundred years ago, and that's how it is today.
Student battalion
Statehood Day, reintroduced in 2002, was usually celebrated in Orašac with empty speeches by state officials. The public remained more or less indifferent because of this, aware of fulfilling a mere formality. Now Sretenje in Kragujevac is becoming a true national holiday, a reminder of everything that should really be celebrated in Serbia.
With the reawakening of kindness, humanity and courage, this was won exclusively by rebellious students and pupils. Similar to the Student Battalion, which was sent to the front as the last hope by the Serbian Army Command in Kragujevac in the winter of 1914, when Serbia was on its knees, boys and girls in blockades and marches are today themselves initiating the rescue of the country from a corrupt and fundamentally anti-people regime. And a little more symbolism - "Big school lesson" in Šumarice and how it obliges every citizen of Serbia.
Is it difficult?
That's why, dear reader, when and students in ice, snow and rain I can walk to Kragujevac holding on to each other - and spending the night in greenhouses at a temperature in the severe minus - you can also sit in a car, bus or wagon, and follow them.
When they don't let up for more than two and a half months and "pump" or "pump" sacrificing their school years and youthful carefreeness, you can also give up one day of the weekend.
When they persevere for Serbia and heroically fight for a better future for all of us, you too can be a student for at least one day and help them grow.
All for Kragujevac! Do not blush in front of your own daughters and sons.
