Today, in the "Kurir" tabloid, on pages 8 and 9, a text appeared under the label "exclusive" and with the title "United against Russian aggression against Ukraine". This unique text is signed by all ambassadors of the EU countries in Serbia and the head of the EU delegation, Emanuel Giofre.
The text appears on the day when Serbia is expected to give its vote in the UN General Assembly to the Resolution that should condemn the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine. Ambassadors in Serbia write about how they see the events in Eastern Europe and, more importantly, how these events have changed EU policy.
They say that the policy has changed, but it is still not visible except for the fact that Ukraine has been promised aid for the purchase of weapons and that the Federal Republic of Germany has allocated 100 billion euros to strengthen its military power.
The EU has introduced controlled sanctions against the Russian Federation and announces new ones. The EU welcomed the position of Serbia from February 25, in which Serbia expressed its position that it is against the violation of international law, but also against the introduction of sanctions. However, it seems that this is not enough and that Serbia is now being asked to clearly and loudly condemn Russia's attack on Ukraine by supporting the Resolution.
The EU publishes it in a newspaper that has been the benchmark for unethical reporting since it was created 15 years ago. In newspapers that serve as a tool in the government's war against the defenseless. The EU, which at the same time bans Russian propaganda media such as RT and Sputnik on its territory, sends its messages to the public in a similar media in Serbia.
This attitude of embassies and delegations can hardly convince anyone that they really believe when they say that the unity of all those who believe in certain values is now necessary. What are the values that determined the ambassadors of the EU countries and the EU delegation to address the Serbian public through a tabloid that has violated the Code of Ethics hundreds of times? That is a question we do not have an answer to today.
We can guess that the idea is to "address" a non-EU audience that supports the position of their president, so I guess this one announcement will make a difference. And that was published after the text on page 7 of the same issue signed by the Kurir editorial office, which talks about the hypocrisy of the EU and Western countries under the title "Hypocrisy, the West condemns Russia for aggression, and NATO did the same to Serbia in 1999".
Anyone who follows politics in Serbia knows that articles like this have no influence on the way Vučić will make a decision, nor do they change the "awareness" of citizens about what is happening in the world.
On the contrary, this announcement says something else: the EU gave legitimacy to the tabloid, put it on par with the media that professionally engage in journalism and have an independent editorial policy, and gave Vučić the material to say that, well, both he and the state are suffering because of the behavior of the tabloid like all those who complain about the lies and insults that the tabloids publish every day, so Vučić will be able to say that he will never agree to such pressures and blackmail.
And we support him in that. It should not change anything in Serbia's position, it should not condemn Russia's attack and it should not impose sanctions on the Russian Federation.
The EU has shown itself to be so weak that they really have no choice but to write articles for the tabloids. They can place the story of unity, solidarity and values there together with other unworthy and obscenities that the tabloids constantly publish.
