There are events when you should bow your head and be silent. And immediately afterwards - express condolences.
The tragic death of a two-year-old Thank you Ilić such is the event.
Nevertheless, the traumatized public must be informed. Whose task is that? None other than the police, that is, its officer who is trained for such a task and, possibly, the highest senior. The information communicated in this way must be accurate and measured, must not endanger the dignity of the victim and her family, nor rise to the mundane passions of the public.
Only then, the president of the republic - and exclusively in the function of a man whose domain includes the symbolic representation of the unity of citizens - should and must express his condolences and send an adequate message to society.
It is not for him to present the information. Even less to compete with the tabloids. And especially not to use a painful and painful event to always be in the center of attention.
Aleksandar Vučić did the opposite. The news that the police solved the disappearance of little Danka was announced at an extraordinary session of the Government of Serbia. There, in his introductory presentation, between references to the Dedicated Industry and nuclear energy, he said that two men were arrested and confessed to the crime. He thanked the police, left out his condolences to the Ilić family, continued on about the upcoming meeting with Macron...
If Vučić, for some reason that only he could understand, felt that he had to present the information that Bata Gašić brought to his folder right away, at least he could have interrupted the introductory presentation and observed a minute's silence with the ministers to pay respect to the little Danka. More importantly - why didn't the head of state act in the most appropriate way? And that is to address the public after the MUP press conference as it should? Finally, is there anything that would prevent him, even for a moment, from giving up his role as the bringer and creator of all "exclusive" news?
Unfortunately, this is not the first nor the last time Vučić uses the tragedy for self-promotion. A similar thing happened less than a year ago after Ribnikar, Dubona and Mali Orašaj. And that's why no one should wonder why there is no bottom of dishonor for a huge number of media in Serbia that they are unable to break through. And especially when it comes to those in the closest relationship with the president of the state.
