After the American sanctions against NIS came into force, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that the refinery in Pancevo has enough oil to operate until November 1. An extraordinary session of the shareholders' assembly has been requested, while Belgrade, Moscow and Washington hold parallel talks on the future of the oil sector in Serbia.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić he said that it was bad but expected news that they were US sanctions on NIS came into force this morning at six o'clock. According to him, without additional inflow, the refinery has oil for production until November 1, and the reserves of oil derivatives are full and are sufficient until the new year.
In an extraordinary address to the public, Vučić said that the Serbian members of the NIS Board of Directors requested an extraordinary meeting of the shareholders' assembly in order to find out from the Russian side what they are planning and expecting.
"Since Croatia stopped the flow of oil to NIS, the realistic assessment is that the refinery can operate without additional flow until November 1. From that moment, problems with derivatives begin," said Vučić.
He pointed out that citizens should not be worried because the reserves of derivatives are full. As he said, there are a total of 342 thousand tons of diesel and over 66 thousand tons of gasoline in reserves. As for fuel oil, Vučić says that EPS has enough for one year.
"There will be no problems with fuel until the new year," said Vučić.
He rejected ideas about the nationalization of NIS as one of the models for solving the problem.
"As a country that inherits the rule of law and that has never boasted of extortion, we cannot happily agree to models of expropriation of someone's capital or property, that is our political decision. We have discussed and will continue discussions with American partners, this morning I spoke with the Russian ambassador, we expect Moscow's reaction," said Vučić.
We have enough diesel, gasoline, unleaded fuel, fuel oil in reserves, all our warehouses are full, said Vučić.
We need an assembly of NIS shareholders to see if we should go ahead with importing oil and how to import and how the Refinery can continue to work and how and in what way we can import derivatives, he said. He stated that he managed to make some personal friendships in the world that would enable us to bring oil to nearby ports, but we have to talk with the shareholders, with the Russians, whether they can process that oil. "If they can't, then we have to import derivatives directly... And then the question of transportation is huge, not only do we not have, but nowhere in this part of Europe there is no capacity to transport those derivatives", he stated.
As he said, they managed to solve the issue of air transportation as of this morning.
"No plane wanted to pour certified NIS oil - no one will fall under American sanctions and not fly in the skies of Europe and the USA. We managed to settle with the Kuwaiti-British company... We have supplied ourselves with kerosene, there will be no problem with air traffic," he stated.
