Ten years have passed since the announcement of the high-speed railway between Belgrade and Budapest, and the trains do not yet follow the complete route. The entire project of Pride was marked by a tragedy at the railway station in Novi Sad, whose canopies, throughout the entire project, were not reconstructed, so took 16 lives.
Knowing this, it is difficult to say when trains with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour could go between Belgrade and Vršac and, further, towards Romania, but the first step has been taken.
As reported by eKapija, the Agency for Spatial Planning and Urbanism has adopted a decision on the development of a Strategic Assessment of the impact of the Spatial Plan of Special Purpose Areas (PPPPN) on the environment of the railway corridor from Belgrade's Prokop, via Pančevački most, Pančevo, Vršac to the border.
The Agency for Spatial Planning and Urbanism is responsible for the preparation of the Strategic Assessment, and the deadline for preparation is 12 months from the date of entry into force of the Decision on the preparation of the Spatial Plan.
A new station is also being built.
So far the matter has dragged on. In March of last year, as eKapija reminds, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced a public call for consulting services on the reconstruction project of that railway. By the way, the same public invitation was published three years ago.
It is planned, as previously pointed out, that the project will be financed from a loan of 102 million euros that Serbia received from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the French Development Agency.
The reconstruction will, it is added, raise the speed of the trains to 160 kilometers per hour.
As previously announced, the new Pancevo Banat station will be built, so the modernized line should be double-track from the Pancevo Glavna station to the new Pancevo Banat station, and a single-track line from that station to the state border with Romania.
