American president Donald tramp further escalated the trade war with China by announcing on Wednesday that he would "immediately" raise US tariffs on Chinese imports to 125 percent "because of the lack of respect that China showed towards world markets".
Earlier on Wednesday, China raised tariffs on US goods to 84 percent.
In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump also stated that he had "announced a 90-day pause" for other countries, citing more than 75 nations that have reached out for negotiations.
Both that pause and "a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff during this period of 10 percent are effective immediately," Trump wrote.
"Based on China's lack of respect for world markets, I am hereby raising the tariff imposed on China by the United States of America to 125 percent, effective immediately."
At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of hijacking the US and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable.
"In contrast, and based on the fact that more than 75 countries have invited representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce and Treasury to negotiate a solution to the disputed topics of trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation and non-monetary tariffs, I have authorized a 90-day pause and a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff during this period, of 10 percent, also effective immediately," Trump wrote.
