Why is food from Serbia unsafe for the European Union and can this problem be solved?

Croatian Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar said that the country is ready to buy NIS. Aleksandar Vučić retorted that Serbia is "ready to buy the Croatian Electric Power Company, JANAF, everything"
Croatian Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar said that Croatia is ready to buy Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), as a solution to the problems arising from the entry into force of American sanctions on the Serbian Oil Industry, and the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić replied that Serbia is "ready to buy the Croatian Electric Power Company, JANAF, everything".
"Now I will tell you, we are interested in buying Croatian Elektroprivreda, JANAF, everything! But they didn't even let us buy Kraš when we wanted! And we gave them everything they wanted. So much for European values and market freedoms. But today they are doing well and no one is bothering them about anything," said the President of Serbia.
He stated that "he is very happy that they are." Croatians interested in buying NIS, they care so much about Serbia".
"We have seen it in the last 11 months. This way, when our Russian friends inform us that they are planning to sell NIS, we will also inform the Croats. Everyone's offer is welcome. But we inform them in advance that we already have the best offer for HEP (Croatian Electric Power Company), no one will offer them that much money. There is no America, China, we will give 50 percent more money for HEP, more than any other bidder in the world. Let them keep that in mind. We are only looking for a transparent tender. Choose the best bidder, Serbia will give 50 percent more money. I wish them all the best," said Vučić.
Previously, Šušnjar pointed out that Croatia is ready for cooperation.
"Our hand is outstretched, if that is the solution, we are ready for that option as well," Sušnjar told reporters.
He expressed his opinion that in this way the continuity and business interests of the Adriatic Oil Pipeline, which have been closely connected with NIS for 40 years, "without any pretensions to dominate the retail market in Serbia", would be ensured.
"That would make it easier for us and for Serbia," added the Croatian minister who comes from the right-wing Homeland Movement, a minority partner in the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) government of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
He added that the refinery in Pancevo supplies 20 percent of the derivatives market in BiH.
"This is an additional challenge for BiH as well, and by the end of the month we expect the completion of the modernization of the refinery in Rijeka, which would increase the capacities, so we could help BiH, and partly also Serbia," added Šušnjar, Croatian Radio and Television reported.
He rejected assessments that developments with NIS and sanctions threaten Croatia's position in negotiations with MOL on supplying Hungary and Slovakia with sufficient quantities of oil.
The minister said that Croatia is ready to deliver sufficient quantities of oil to Hungary, Slovakia and Serbia when the circumstances and geopolitical circumstances allow it.
The state-owned Croatian company JANAF announced that it has information that the company NIS ad has not received the license required for the continuation of the contract on the transportation of crude oil, which means that from October 8, 2025, the possibility of further realization of the contracted activities will cease.
By the way, JANAF received permission yesterday to deliver oil to NIS in the next seven days, and it was expected that regardless of the sanctions, it would continue its cooperation with the Oil Industry of Serbia. However, an announcement was made that the possibility of further realization of the contract ends.
"JANAF continues to actively, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Croatia and its American legal advisors, work on opportunities to find a solution in accordance with the current regulatory framework," stated JANAF.
As they state, that company is a financially strong and stable company, "ready for all market challenges".
"The conducted stress tests and analyzes confirmed the resilience and security of business in all segments. JANAF is ready for this kind of development, which was confirmed by the stress tests we conducted in the past period. The Company's business is stable and is not threatened in any way. JANAF will continue with the planned activities of business diversification and opening to new markets, which have been the foundation of the Company's business success until now," says the Management Board of JANAF dd led by the President of the Management Board M.Sc. Stjepan Adanić and Board member Vladislav Veselic.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković pointed out that he hopes for a solution that would enable the continuation of cooperation between NIS and JANAF
"Since it was mentioned somewhere in the media that MOL is interested in participating in the ownership of JANAF, we emphasize once again that the Jadranski naftovod is not for sale. It will be and will remain Croatian," Plenković said.
Regarding the talks with MOL on the supply of refineries in Croatia, Plenković said that on Wednesday JANAF's readiness to transport sufficient quantities of oil necessary for the full capacities and activities of two MOL refineries in Hungary and Slovakia was confirmed once again. a.
He pointed out that JANAF's infrastructure is ready to transport all the necessary oil, regardless of the quantity, and that it can deliver the necessary oil to MOL instead of the Druzhba pipeline.
As for the American sanctions against NIS, he said that in this way JANAF was prevented from transporting crude oil to the refinery in Pancevo, which was possible until now.
"We hope for a solution that will allow that business cooperation to continue as well as the supply of crude oil to the refinery in Pančevo. It is known that JANAF is the only pipeline route that supplies the refinery in Pančevo with oil, and from that side Croatia played an important role in enabling the activity and operation of the Refinery," Plenković said.
It is estimated that the cessation of oil deliveries to NIS would reduce JANAF's income by 18 million euros by the end of the year.
