Representatives of the Hungarian Mole they arrived in Serbia and began an in-depth analysis of the operations of the Serbian Oil Industry, Tanjug learns. MOL representatives, as planned, began a tour of key facilities NIS.
MOL representatives are expected to stay in Serbia for the next few days. It will monitor the entire operation of NIS, which, by the way, is a common process when oil companies are bought.
The US Ministry of Finance issued a special license to NIS on December 31, allowing the company to once again carry out operational activities until January 23, 2026.
President Aleksandar Vučić said that it is expected that the first 85.000 tons of crude oil will arrive by January 15 at the latest and that the Refinery will start operating on January 17 or 18, as well as start producing oil derivatives from January 25 or 26, and called on the Russians and Hungarians to agree on the purchase agreement for NIS as soon as possible.
Vučić, in his address after the session of the National Security Council, called on the management of Gazprom, NIS and MOL to complete the purchase agreement as soon as possible, so that we can get out of the sanctions regime.
Earlier, he stated that the Americans expect to see on January 23 all the main points of the future contract between the seller of NIS and the future buyer, in this case, as he said, most likely the Hungarian company MOL.
Credit for the new license
Vučić added that MOL worked with NIS, together with the state of Serbia, on the letter sent to the American OFAK, as well as on enabling NIS to obtain an operational license.
NIS said the operating license allows the company to maintain operations, contracts and other agreements related to NIS and its operating subsidiaries, including restarting refinery processing, importing crude oil and conducting transactions necessary for security of supply and technical maintenance.
On October 9, the USA imposed sanctions on the NIS company due to its majority Russian ownership. Due to the lack of crude oil inflow, the refinery has been in the warm circulation phase since November 25, and NIS announced on December 2 that the Pancevo Oil Refinery has begun suspending the production facilities due to the lack of crude oil for processing, which occurred as a result of the sanctions imposed by the US Ministry of Finance on the company NIS.
OFAK then issued a license to the Oil Industry of Serbia, which extended the deadline for negotiations on the sale of the Russian share until March 24, while the previous license had a deadline for changing the ownership structure until February 13.
