The introduction of sanctions on the Serbian oil industry has been announced since the beginning of the year, and several delays followed. What citizens say, who is to blame for the unpredictable future of NIS
Citizens of Serbia (45 percent) for an unpredictable future Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) are held responsible United States, and the least "wrong" Russia, shows research by the Lidington Research organization.
Serbia is in second place with 30,9 percent as responsible, while Russia is only in third place with 8,7 percent, according to research data, he writes for The new economy Katarina Pantelic.
Those who are not sure who is responsible for the current situation with NIS are 15,5 percent.
"People who vote for the opposition parties mostly blame Serbia for the situation with the NIS, while those who vote for the ruling parties blame the USA for the current situation," said Lidington Research representative Dimitrije Milić at the conference organized by the Institute for European Studies.
Who are Serbia's main economic partners?
When it comes to Serbia's economic partners, the surveyed citizens, 1.256 of them, believe that the European Union is the main economic partner of the country (40,7 percent), 39,4 percent of them believe that it is China, while 18,3 percent believe that it is Russia. A small percentage of citizens believe that the USA is Serbia's main economic partner.
On the other hand, the results are almost identical when it comes to the perception of who should be Serbia's main economic partner.
The EU is in first place with 33,8 percent, followed by China with 31,7 percent, Russia with 28,6 percent and the USA with 5,8 percent.
And what about foreign investments?
Only 21 percent of respondents believe that foreign investments in Serbia have a very positive impact on the local economy of Serbia.
36 percent of them believe that this influence is somewhat positive, while 12,4 percent of respondents believe that foreign investments have no effect on the local economy.
There are 14,6 percent of citizens who think that they have a very negative effect, eight percent are somewhat negative, and eight percent are not sure about this issue.
What is your standard of living?
The research that was carried out also included the question concerning the standard of living of citizens, so 31 percent of them believe that their standard of living remained the same as the previous year at the same time.
23,7 percent of them believe that the standard of living is somewhat worse, 17,9 percent that it is significantly worse, while the fewest think that it is significantly better - 11,9 percent.
Director of the Institute for European Studies Slobodan Zečević said that citizens perceive China as an equal partner with the EU, which, he says, is not true.
"Citizens believe that the EU is not Serbia's main partner because of some infrastructure investments. When you look at the exchange of goods with China, it is smaller than the one with Germany. The citizens say that we should be with those who love us, which are the Russians. No political party in Serbia that came to power chose that course. Why? Because it is absolutely unrealistic. We cannot have a system like Russia has. We do not like dictatorships, firm hands, that is not our style and way of life." Zecevic added.
