Ownership structure in The oil industry of Serbia it was changed by the Russian Gazprom Neft transferring its share of about five percent to Gazprom, the Belgrade Stock Exchange announced.
From the documents published on the Belgrade Stock Exchange, it can be seen that Gazprom Neft has reduced its ownership share in NIS from 50 to around 44,85 percent. At the same time, Gazprom increased its share in NIS from 6,15 to 11,30 percent.
The remaining owners of NIS are the state of Serbia with a share of 29,87 percent, and the remaining shares are owned by citizens, current and former employees and other minority shareholders, writes portal Danas.
The ownership structure of NIS has been changed as part of sanctions avoidance which were introduced to that company on January 10 of this year by the United States of America due to the share of Gazprom Neft, with the aim of preventing Russia from using energy revenues for the war in Ukraine.
The sanctions imposed on NIS are scheduled to take effect on Thursday, February 27.
Will the change please the US?
Stock market expert Nenad Gujaničić told the Beta agency that it is difficult to assess why the new "repackaging" of ownership in NIS was done today, as well as whether it will have effects on American sanctions.
"The question is whether this cosmetic change will satisfy the American administration, it nominally satisfies the conditions of the sanctions." The second part remains, and that is that Serbian state officials were told that the goal was to expel the Russians from the NIS," said Gujaničić.
He added that he did not know whether this "switching from the left to the right pocket will have an effect."
"Obviously, this has something to do with the negotiations between the Ministers of Serbia and Russia on how to avoid sanctions against the NIS as soon as it came to 12, but it could have been done earlier." If it can be solved this easily, that's great, but I'm a skeptic that this will go over with the Americans like it did with the EU when they transferred six percent to Gazprom," Gujaničić said.
Kompas-info: OTP Bank blocks the NIS account
On the same day, OTP Bank announced to the Serbian Oil Industry that it would block the company's account, Kompas-info learned from sources close to Gazprom.
The OTP announced the blocking of the NIS account as part of the US sanctions against the Russian-Serbian company.
If the NIS account in OTP bank is blocked, this means in practice that citizens will not be able to pay with this bank's cards at their pumps.
OTP Bank could not immediately confirm or dispute this information. For NIS, this means that it will no longer be able to carry out any monetary transactions through OTP Bank.
In NIS, as this portal has learned, they expect that other banks will also block their accounts tomorrow during the day.
