Zlatibor According to statistics, it has been the most visited mountain in Serbia for years. Its center has long been referred to as a "city on a mountain" where there is less greenery than in the blocks of New Belgrade, and now there are new announcements about airport construction.
In the area where earthworks are currently being carried out, the president of the municipality of Čajetina Milan Stamatović announced the start of construction of the airport in Zlatibor.
"In the first phase of the works, the runway will be about 700 meters long, in the second 1.200 meters, and the final length will be 2,5 kilometers. The public interest has been determined here, and we are fighting to reserve the land of the Agricultural Combine, which is blocked, for such purposes through the public interest," said Stamatović for the RINA agency.
An idea that's been around for decades
According to him, the idea of building an airport on Zlatibor is more than two decades old, but the conditions for its realization have only now been created.
"Even 20 years ago, there was an idea that Zlatibor would have its own airport for small and light aircraft, but now the possibilities are much greater - the 2,5-kilometer runway will enable the landing of larger aircraft as well," said Stamatović.
Stamatović said that this is a project of exceptional importance for Zlatibor and that, upon completion, the airport will represent a new development opportunity not only for tourism but also for the economy of the entire region.
