At the Senate session University of Novi Sad which was held at the beginning of June 2026, it was decided that the professor Faculty of Philosophy Vladimir Mihić will not be re-elected to the position of associate professor.
After such a decision, students and citizens in Novi Sad organized several rallies in support of Professor Mihić, and his colleagues - more than 1.000 representatives of the academic community - also supported him.
Vladimir Mihić appealed against that decision, and the session of the extended Senate, which was held on July 9 and was supposed to decide on Mihić's appeal, was interrupted because Bosiljka Zirojević Lečić, a professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, left the session not wanting to participate in the secret ballot.

18 members of the Senate voted against Mihić's objection
At the session that took place this Tuesday, July 14, the majority of the members of the Senate voted again to declare the objection secretly, which is against the Statute of the University.
18 members of the extended Senate voted against the objection, seven supported the proposal, and one abstained.
21 members of this body said that the voting should be secret, four were against, and two votes were abstained. The dean of the Faculty of Philosophy was restrained, just like last time Milivoj Alanovic.
Professor Mihić told "Danas" that he will file a lawsuit and an administrative dispute against this decision.

Mihić: "They remained consistent with their illegality"
"All this was expected, as soon as they decided to vote secretly, it was known that they had no intention of adopting my objection. As far as my colleagues told me, at the meeting they did not even discuss the elements of my complaint and the controversial decisions of the Senate, they just voted, so there was not even a minute of discussion. I am waiting for an official decision, I will now receive a decision on the termination of the employment relationship and after that I can file a complaint with the Administrative Court. This decision is even more scandalous than the previous one, because they knew that everything they were doing is illegal, but they remained consistent with their illegality. As lawyers familiar with similar disputes tell me, two or three years of legal battle awaits me, at best," Mihić told "Danas".
The new expanded Senate was elected this Monday, July 13, and the session, like last time, was scheduled and held in less than 24 hours. Mihić himself announced that the Senate is now planning to expand with "people who will not cause problems".
Vladimir Mihić is the second professor who lost his job at the Faculty of Philosophy. Before him, the professor experienced the same fate Jelena Kleut.
