Match football Serbian national team and Albania which will be played in Leskovac on Saturday, is attracting a lot of attention from both the Serbian and Albanian public, but the reason for this is not the skills of the players, because it is about two completely average teams.
Passions were stirred in advance first because of historical friction that exists between the two nations, but also due to many non-football elements seen in the previous matches of the two national teams.
He was chosen as the host of the match Leskovac, which is a direct consequence of what happened at the previous match of the Serbian national team, played in Belgrade, which ended with a convincing victory for England.
However, the fact that Leskovac ran was not a bad result, but an attempt by the authorities to prevent what was happening at the "Rajko Mitić" stadium: first, the coach of the Serbian national team, Dragan Stojković Pixi, was loudly booed, and then the audience started shouting slogans against the government and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
The regime sensed that something like that could happen, so it did Football Association of Serbia asked for that match to be played in Leskovac, but the English did not even want to hear about it, because Leskovac does not have an airport, and according to the English, even the stadium in that city does not meet all the security criteria.
To make things even more complicated, the tickets for the match were not put on sale, and a part of the public that is not in favor of the authorities thinks that this is because the regime does not want "undesirable" fans to be at the match, i.e. those who, like in Belgrade, would insult Vučić.
Only about 6000 fans
FSS was punished by FIFA by shortening, already a small enough stadium, so the match against a direct rival in the fight for second position will be watched live by around 6000 fans.
In accordance with Article 52 of the Law on Police, the Police Department will take all legal measures to ensure that this match takes place safely, including photo and video recording, the Leskovac Police Department announced.
Coach Stojković assessed that the match against Albania is one of the most important in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup, but that he is "calm about that duel" and that he expects all six points in the October qualification cycle.
"We have a tough match ahead of us, our sports rival Albania is an extremely good team, and we are expected to win. This is one of the most important, if not the most important, match in terms of placing in our group. We know the importance of the match and we are preparing accordingly. What is very important is that the players are completely calm, we welcome the match fully ready to give our maximum and make the nation happy with victory," said Stojković.
