Head of the Sector for emergency Situations Luka Čaušić said on Monday that a state of emergency has been declared in 10 local self-government units in all or part of the territory due to problems in the supply with electricity and impassability of roads.
Čaušić stated that a state of emergency has been declared in local governments: Lucani, Password, Valjevo, Osečina, Mali Zvornik, Krupanj, Prijepolje, Majdanpek, Sjenica and Ivanjica, and that it was abolished in Vladimirci.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs - Emergency Situations Sector is continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and will not reduce the level of preparedness of its forces and will be present in all areas where necessary," Čaušić pointed out at the session of the Republican Headquarters for Emergency Situations.
He added that firefighters and rescuers and members of the police and Gendarmerie continuously engaged in the previous days on the ground in affected and critical areas for preventive visits and providing assistance to citizens in accordance with priorities and needs, especially in the form of rescuing and evacuating the endangered and delivering basic means of living.
He pointed out that in recent days 38 people were evacuated and rescued in Užice, Pancevo, Požega, Ljubovija, Loznica, Bor, Vranje, Novi Pazar, Svrljig and Doljevac.
He added that from January 4 to 12, 102 interventions were recorded due to the consequences of snowfall, that 226 firefighters-rescuers with 104 vehicles, 23 pumps and three boats were engaged.
When it comes to the state of river watercourses, the Department for Emergency Situations is in constant contact with JVP "Srbijavode" and monitors the situation on the ground, in order to respond in a timely manner in case of need.
He indicated that the capacity of the Sector for emergency situations consists of operational fire and rescue units with about 3.700 members in 162 units, within which 27 specialist teams for rescue and work on water with 319 members and 140 vessels of various purposes were formed, as well as eight specialist teams for rescue from ruins with 150 members.
Additional forces consist of Specialized Civil Protection Units of various purposes, about 1.500 members, as well as volunteer firefighting companies with 3.276 members in 354 companies.
Nikolić: The hydrological situation is favorable, no floods are expected
The director of the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) Jugoslav Nikolić said that a gradual stabilization of the weather in Serbia is expected from January 14, and that moderate and strong morning frosts are expected tomorrow with the lowest temperature below minus 10 degrees.
Nikolić stated that the hydrological situation in Serbia is favorable and that floods are not expected, and that reservoirs will be filled.
"It can be said that the hydrological situation is favorable, taking into account the situation in the riverbed and in the watersheds, the water supplies in the snow and the expected synoptic situation," said Nikolić at the session of the Republican Headquarters for Emergency Situations.
Nikolić said that in the previous period, hydrological warnings were issued in a timely manner on the rise of the water level and the overcoming of warning levels on the rivers Lim, Drina, Ibar and South Morava. According to him, currently the water levels on the Danube and Tisa rivers are stagnant with a tendency of a smaller increase in the domain of medium-low water levels.
