140 MPs voted for the law, submitted by the Government, and 14 abstained. The aim of the new solutions is to improve the material and social position of families who, due to caring for their loved ones, are unable to find regular employment, writes RTS.
The amount of 65.000 dinars for parents-caregivers, as the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski pointed out in the discussion, will not be fixed but will be adjusted every March 1 with the nominal growth rate of the average salary, so that there will be no situation where the parent-caregiver receives less than the minimum.
She added that no existing right will be suspended, including cash social assistance.
Implementation of the law is planned from October 1, 2026.
This law has been pending for years, as parents and guardians who care for sick children have been appealing about the problem.
