Under the video of Mitrić's statement, an unknown person wrote in a comment on the social network, "You should have been killed a long time ago with a hammer in the head, donkey."
Mitrić told UNS that last night he reported the threat to the Loznica police, who informed the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office about it, and the case will be forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office for High-Tech Crime.
On September 12, 2005, Mitrić was beaten in the entrance to the building where he lives, and the attack followed a series of verbal threats and the destruction of his car, after which he received police protection.
"I was lucky that I protected myself from the deadly blows to the head with my hands, one of which was broken on that occasion," said the journalist for UNS.
The attacker is a former police officer from Novi Belgrade, who was sentenced to one year in prison for that attack. According to Mitrić, the attacker has not paid a single dinar in court costs for fifteen years.
He has been working under police protection for 20 years
ANEM stated that Mitrić is a unique case in Europe since he has been working under police protection for more than 20 years.
"We demand that the competent institutions approach this case of endangering the safety of journalist Vladimir Mitrić with special attention. The fact that the journalist has been doing his job for more than 20 years with the constant presence of police protection speaks best of the state of society in which the free work of a journalist is only possible if he is continuously protected by police officers from a former member of the same police force who tried to kill him," claims ANEM.
