Niš became a hit on social networks because Christmas tree in the center, placed literally over the memorial fountain to Stevan Sremac!
This, along with Novi Sad, which decorated the center with a train of colorful lights, has become another city in Serbia that does not pay attention to the associations that the decorations evoke in citizens.
When will the Ćele kula come?
Regarding the covering of Sremč's fountain with a fir tree, Nišlije say - it's a good thing they didn't put lights on the Ćele tower.

Installation of the Christmas tree on the Sremčevo fountain
A fountain with four pipes was installed in 2006 on Stevan Sremac Square in Niš, on the site of the house of Živko Mijalković, better known as boss Ivko, a rich craftsman from Niš, whom Sremac described in the short story "Ivkova slava".
On the fountain there are four memorial plaques with the name of the fountain, a bas-relief with the image of Stevan Sremac, texts in Serbian and English about Sremac and a plaque with the names of the main characters of the story "Zona Zamfirova".
Tourist attraction
Next to the fountain, there is a monument, one of the tourist attractions of Niš, which shows Stevan Sremac and Kalča, the most famous Niš "hunter" and the hero of his work, sitting at a bar table, while in front of them is Kalča's dog, Chapa.
Unofficially, the decision to cover the memorial fountain with a Christmas tree was made because the fountain is not used in winter due to frost.
The city installed a New Year's tree over the Sremac memorial fountain before the New Year 2023.
At that time, a part of the opposition and the public reacted strongly, stating that the monument to one of the great men who lived and worked in Niš was meaningless, and clearly expressed the government's relationship to the city's history and culture, but the Christmas tree was not removed.
