Students who live in Dormitory II, in the F wing of the Student Dormitory "Studentski grad", it was announced on Tuesday that next year until April 16 have to move out because of the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027. Due to this situation, many of them are already thinking about moving to other homes, because they are afraid of the uncertainty and the later distribution in April 2027.
The notice states that the rooms in the F wing are designated for the international specialized exhibition Expo 2027 Belgrade from May 1 to August 30, 2027.
A student of the Faculty of Political Sciences who lives in the F wing says that the students found out about this information from the media and that only after that she read the contract she signed when moving in.
"I found out about this from the media two days ago, and then I checked in the contract that we have to sign upon moving in, and there it is indicated that, during the organization of certain events, the tenants are obliged to move out within a certain period. It is a contract that we definitely sign and without which we cannot move in," he says for "time" student who wished to remain anonymous.
Where will the students go after moving out?
In the notice issued by the Belgrade Student Center, it is stated that the students will be moved to other rooms, i.e. dormitories, in accordance with the possibilities. Our interlocutor points out that she may request a transfer sooner.
"I don't have a plan yet, I would potentially ask for a transfer because it seems unrealistic to find a place for such a large number of people in our and other homes, in rooms of the same category, which we deserve," she says.
This FPN student told "Vreme" that she thinks it's wrong for students to move out of the rooms they got with work and effort, and hopes that a solution will be found so that no one is harmed.
Lack of places in student dormitories
Our interlocutor, who is also a student of FPN and a resident of Studenjak, points out that it is not clear to him why student dormitories are planned as accommodation for EXPO 2027, even though their capacities are limited even under regular circumstances.

"Studenjak is one of the best and best-equipped dormitories. Thus, part of the students will have to go to dormitories of lower quality, even though they chose this dorm and earned it with their engagement. If entire complexes are already being built for the EXPO, why not build another building where volunteers will be housed, because the dorm is intended for students," he explains.
We will not move.
Due to the new situation, students in the blockade announced themselves through their Instagram account. They stated that the Belgrade Student Center considers students redundant. According to their opinion, this notification is "shameful" and they point out that "this is not an improvement of quality, but the expulsion of students for the sake of a project that has nothing to do with education".
They pointed out that this is actually "the culmination of many years of trampling on student standards."
Students do not move out for the first time
Belgrade was supposed to host the European University Games in 2020, when the eviction of students from Student City was also announced. Then the students successfully opposed the protests, and the event was eventually canceled due to the corona virus pandemic.
Our interlocutor from the FPN adds that he sincerely hopes that the students will fight to stay in the dormitory this time as well.
"I hope that this will not pass under the grain, but that it will stop, as was the case in the past. It is not the first time that something like this has happened, there were attempts to move students out for the Universiade, but it did not work, so I hope that it will be the same now," he concludes.
