Employees at Jovina Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 23, they enter the one-hour class strike warning because they are forced to take "measures to protect their dignity and rights", according to the statement of the Strike Committee.
"For a long time, we have been exposed to systematic mobbing, pressure and humiliation by the management, which has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the collective. Instead of the school being a place of healthy cooperation and support, it has become a place where employees feel disenfranchised and belittled. In such conditions, it is impossible to achieve quality educational work, which directly affects our students and their families," the statement reads.
The warning strike will be held on September 23 from 15 to 16 p.m. in front of all three schools where classes are currently being held, that is, in the Mechanical, Technical and Chemical schools.
"This is the first in a series of union activities that we will fight to stop mobbing and establish normal working conditions in our school. We call on parents and the public to understand our struggle, because it is not directed against students, but for the creation of a healthy and safe environment in which both teachers and students will be able to work with dignity," the school's Strike Committee points out.
Displacement in three schools
The teacher at this high school, Rima Grujić, also pointed out that the big problem was caused by moving the school to three locations, despite the decision of the inspection, which stated that only the ceremonial hall should not be used.
"Now we are put in a position where teachers rush to three addresses in order to be able to hold their classes, and that sometimes requires 12 hours of work, including travel. We do not see the institutional will to explain to us where the problem arose and to help us," she pointed out, reports 021.rs.
The student of this school, Tea Savić, pointed out that the problems of the organization do not only apply to the students of Jovina Gymnasium, but also to those in whose schools they are currently attending classes.
"Special majors in Jova's high school have lost all meaning, some departments still don't have professors of certain subjects to teach them. Likewise, my major still doesn't have a professor of applied sciences," she said.
The representative of the parents, Ivana Schneider Papuga, also reminded that the Council of Parents was not formed this year, and that it is obvious that the director Radivoje P. Stojković had numerous failures in school management.
"Our children are scattered around the schools, they mostly go to the second shift, which also means that the time for learning, extracurricular activities and life in general is limited. The professors don't get to go from one school to another, the schedules change on a weekly basis. The root of the problem is the principal's actions. I am asking everyone in charge to help us and return the children to their school, as well as to solve the problem of the administration," she pointed out.
Union: Decisions are made behind closed doors
The union of employees of Jovina Gymnasium points out that in the last almost a year, the concept of one of the oldest and most important educational institutions in Serbia has been completely threatened.
"By moving classes to three schools, the unique atmosphere of the high school was destroyed, which led to the interruption of the continuity of the teaching process. The problem of the dome, which is certainly real and must be solved, became an excuse for decisions that have nothing to do with its rehabilitation, but with the system of collapsing the school," they state.
They also remind that the last session of the Teachers' Council at the school was held on November 29 last year, and that since then decisions have been made behind closed doors, without any information for teachers, students and parents.
Their demands, they point out, were to organize a Teachers' Council, to optimize the schedule of classes and to recognize the legitimacy of the employees' union. None of the demands, they say, have been fulfilled.
