Since the beginning of the year in traffic accidents 199 people lost their lives in Serbia, of which 52 were under the age of 30, the Ministry of the Interior announced.
Of particular concern is the fact that seven young road users lost their lives in the previous seven days alone, which represents serious warning that it is necessary to urgently change the attitude towards traffic safety, indicated the MUP.
Given that a large number of musical, cultural and artistic manifestations follow during the summer period, the MUP called on young drivers to strictly follow the regulations for their own safety and the safety of other road users.
In the coming period, the traffic police administration will carry out increased controls, especially on weekends, with a focus on detecting and punishing the most serious violations that directly affect the occurrence of traffic accidents.
Serbia is the infamous European record holder
The data published in December 2025 by the Traffic Safety Agency unequivocally show that, until that moment, Serbia had the worst result in Evropi according to the number of traffic fatalities - 78 per million inhabitants. The European average is 44 deaths per million inhabitants, and in the Scandinavian countries from 16 to 20 deaths per million inhabitants.
The desperate picture of traffic safety in Serbia was completed by the data of the "Safe Paths" Association, published by the Beta agency in mid-November 2025, that since the beginning of that year, ending with the date of publication of the data, more than 15.000 people have been injured in accidents in Serbia.
