Despite the announcement from a few years ago that it would Cacak get a new one surgical hospital in the area of the already existing General Hospital, this will apparently not happen, he writes OzonePress.
The need to expand the capacity of health institutions in Čačak is great, and it is also necessary to build new facilities and purchase new equipment and increase the number doctor specialist, surgeon, general practitioner and others medical and supporting staff.
At the moment, Čačak lacks more than 130 specialist doctors, and that number is significantly increased by planning the construction of new health facilities.
The people of Čačak have lost hope.
In the OzonPress survey, the people of Čačan made it clear that they are not satisfied with the health services in their city, and the vast majority of them believe that the local hospital and health center do not have a sufficient number of doctors and medical staff.
The Institute of Public Health in Čačak is also in a bad name due to the multi-year "cover-up" of enormous water pollution in Zapadna Morava, especially in the location of Gradska plaže and air pollution that the people of Čačan breathe in the city center, writes OzonPress, and almost 45 percent of the people of Čačan, according to the mentioned survey, are not satisfied with the services of that institution.
In the same survey, 80 percent of the respondents said yes dental the service should not be completely privatized, even though it seems that the issue of the status of dentists has been permanently resolved in Serbian healthcare by removing dentists from the back of the state and sending them to private practice.
Finally, when asked whether Čačak needs additional or new health facilities, such as a hospital and clinics, almost 90 percent of Čačak answered yes.
The mayor does not save on promises
In mid-October 2021, Milun Todorović, mayor of Čačak, announced that the General Hospital will be completely reconstructed and that 85 million dinars will be allocated from the city's budget for the development of projects for that purpose.
"Out of those 85 million dinars, 80 million is for the construction and reconstruction of the complete contents of the hospital on 10,2 hectares, as well as the RH center, five million dinars in Ovčar Banja. That's all in one package, because it is quite logical that when the new RH center is built in Ovčar Banja, it will be part of the General Hospital in Čačak, primarily for the sake of personnel, but also for the control of services," Todorović said at the time.
Two months after that, Todorović expanded his promises by declaring that Čačak will get two completely new health facilities - the Health Station "Ljubić", which will be more like a mini clinic in this part of Čačak, and a new Surgical Hospital, the construction of which is planned as part of the complete reconstruction of the General Hospital.
"The reconstruction of the General Hospital in Čačak involves the construction of a new surgical hospital, and the new hospital block will cover 24.000 square meters. In addition to the surgical block, an infectious disease department with an area of 2.000 square meters, a boiler room of 500 square meters, two transformer stations, a station for the treatment of medical gases, as well as three concierges will be built. The total area of the new and reconstructed buildings will be 54.000 square meters. Within the complex The general hospital in Čačak has 19 buildings with a total area of 35.143 square meters, 11 buildings are planned to be demolished, and eight are planned to undergo a thorough reconstruction or change of purpose," Todorović said in December 2021.
Lots of announcements, zero work
From March 2022 to August 2024, the project for the construction of a new Surgical Hospital in Čačak was worked on, and no one from the local government went public with new announcements of this capital project. It has already begun to be suspected that nothing will come of it until the next elections, and then at the beginning of August 2024, the then Prime Minister of Serbia Milos Vucevic appeared in Čačak at the laying of the foundation stone for the new NTP building and declared that the project for the construction of a new hospital in Čačak had been completed.
At the beginning of November 2024, Todorović stated that a building permit had been obtained for the construction of a new hospital building, and announced that the new building, i.e. the surgical block, will cover 26.000 square meters of gross or 23.000 square meters of net usable area.
At the beginning of May 2025, the Minister for Public Investments Darko Glisic he stated that "we are intensively preparing for the construction of a new hospital in Čačak".
"It is a capital and significant project. Only those who have never done anything in their life think that it is easy, that you just snap your fingers and start working. It takes a long time to prepare for the realization of that project, I know from the experience of the hospitals we work in throughout Serbia. It requires very hard work and a lot of time to predict each segment, to go through every permit, every paper and every detail of the project," said Glišić at the time.
During the opening of the Miloš Veliki highway section from Pakovrat to Požega, on July 9, 2025, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić announced that "the construction of the largest Health Center of Western Serbia in Čačak, worth 80 million euros, will soon begin".
However, despite all these announcements, the promised works are not in sight. Four years were needed just for the construction permit, so the people of Čača fear that everything will end only on empty promises from the authorities.
