Young man Ivan Petrović (20), who was the only one left in custody after his arrest for demonstration in Novi Sad, was released on Friday evening, his legal representative Danilo Stanojević confirmed to the Beta agency
Petrović has been in custody since November 26, and is suspected of violent behavior at the mass demonstrations in Novi Sad on November 5, writes N1.
As the lawyer explained, that young man was arrested later, because the police found him after 20 days of searching, since he has no residential address.
"He is an orphan, he grew up in the Children's Village in Sremska Kamenica, and his address is the Center for Social Work, so he does not have an official address. "They don't release him from custody because they make the excuse that he will be unavailable to the prosecuting authorities due to the lack of an address," said Stanojević.
Activists of youth and environmental organizations appealed for Petrović to be released from custody.
"Why is Ivan in prison the longest? Because the young man is without parents, he grew up in a home and has no property - no apartment, no house, no one in this world but us," said activist Dušan Bodiroga.
He stated that Ivan "has nowhere to go".
"Let's not let him be alone, let's not let one of us suffer." The Prosecutor's Office is not releasing him because, as they say, he has no address and there is a fear that he will run away. But where? He has nowhere to go," Bodiroga concluded.
