"Schools who made up the lessons will not have to extend the school year, while those who started making up the lessons later and believe that they will not have time to assess the students, will have five additional days", said today the head of secondary schools from Ministry of Education Marija Krneta.
Krneta told RTS that the measure applies to both primary and secondary schools, but that she thinks that the measure will be more necessary for secondary schools.
Regarding the postponement of the final exam for the eighth grade, Krneta said that it will be postponed by five days to begin with, which is the duration of the declared extension of the year announced by the Ministry.
Commenting on the methods of compensation for missed material, Krneta states that they are different, and working Saturdays are the least represented.
"The compensation method is the extension of a certain number of lessons, the insertion of a seventh lesson, block teaching, project teaching. There are many teachers in the education system who have a very good command of digital tools, such as the flipped classroom, in which certain materials are placed so that students in their free time are infected with educational content that they will deepen and critically consider tomorrow at school," said Krneta.
Mock final exam in mathematics postponed to April 25
She said that five additional days will be enough for compensation, but that there are schools that have not entered the work process, reminding that the number of grades prescribed by law is three in secondary schools, and four in primary schools.
"The trial final exam in mathematics was originally scheduled for March, and then it was postponed to April 25. Trial final exams in other subjects can be held during regular classes," said Krneta.
She added that there are 66.445 students in the eighth grade and that there are several thousand parents who want to postpone the final exam, noting that without passing the "small matura" there is no completion of elementary school and compulsory education, and that the law cannot be changed during the technical mandate of the Government.
