The students changed a lot of things and a lot of everyone. This second group also includes police officers, individuals employed by the police, not the entire profession.
Videos of some beautiful and touching encounters between members of the police and citizens are widely shared on social networks, so I won't talk about that. I would about a few that others have told me about. Because that is proof of why we needed students.
Faculty of Economics
In front of the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, students stand in silence for fifteen minutes, there are also several policemen.
The elderly man walks across the crosswalk to the other side of the street, then stops to see what is happening.
He asks the policeman why they are standing. Loud, so in that silence everyone can hear it.
The policeman approaches him and says quietly "these are our students".
Those who remained on the sidewalk hear him, but the elderly man does not hear him, so the policeman repeats "students are silent for Novi Sad".
"There isn't a single student here, they're all lezilebovics who won't study...", the older man started shouting.
The policeman approached him, grabbed his elbow. And he says:
"Sir, you don't know that and don't insult me." Please continue on your way, calmly."
Zemun
Vladislava told me that she was going somewhere on some business and saw that Zemun was full of police. "One young, beautiful, healthy, uniformed and armed guy with a beret" found her way.
"Will the protesters pass this way?", she asks him, he confirms.
"Don't beat them!" she tells him.
"Ma'am, many of us are on the side of the students," he declared quietly. Vladislava managed not to cry.
Kragujevac
At the crosswalk, my friend crosses the street with bags in one hand and her four-year-old grandson in the other. It's hard for her, she's tired, she doesn't care, she's moving slowly.
There is no one on the zebra except for her and the child.
Suddenly, a policeman appears and starts walking on her left side along the edge of the zebra crossing, parallel to her.
When she was halfway across the crossing, he crossed over to the right.
"What are you doing, following me?" Is it forbidden to walk on the street?", he asks.
"No ma'am, the traffic light broke, so when the drivers see your uniform they will let you pass." I'm making sure someone doesn't crash, that's all.''
When they crossed the street, he asked her if she could carry those bags by herself, if she needed help. And he's going in her direction, so it wouldn't be difficult for him...
Later, at home, her grandson told his dad and mom how grandma hugged the policeman.
