Worshipers wait in line for more than eight hours to worship The Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos.
One of them, who stood in line on Thursday around 11:30 p.m., and reached Pojas around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, says that the priests rushed them so much in the Church of St. Sava that in the end she almost didn't see him.
"Just the corner of the eye, some part of the belt," he says. When there were six or seven people in front of her, the priest approached them and told them to start praying and just continue on.
The belt will be in the temple of Saint Sava until Saturday, June 6, when, after the Holy Liturgy led by the Serbian Patriarch Porphyry, to be solemnly escorted to the Vatoped monastery on Mount Athos. The Serbian Orthodox Church announced that they are in the process of preparing for a ceremonial send-off.
It was originally announced that the belt would be in Serbia until May 29, but the deadline was extended twice due to the great interest of believers.
