Almost a year after collapsed the ceiling in the Elementary School "Karađorđe" in Saranov u municipality of Rača, five people were arrested on suspicion of having committed several criminal acts in connection with the reconstruction of the building schools and damaged the budget of Serbia for more than 21,8 million dinars.
MG (42) from Valjevo, responsible person of PD MG Engineering DOO Valjevo, engaged in professional supervision of works, as well as MP (69) from Kragujevac, employed at PD Sloga Construction DOO Belgrade, as a responsible contractor, announced the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP).
BP (50) from Kragujevac, responsible person of PD SKY gradnja 034 DOO Kragujevac, who participated in the works as a subcontractor, was also arrested due to suspicion of abuse of the position of responsible person, while JM (44) from Belgrade, responsible person of PD Arkon projekt inženjering DOO Rača, and designer JR (30) from Belgrade were suspected of falsifying an official document in co-execution.
MG and BP were detained for up to 48 hours, while MP, JM and JR will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office with a criminal complaint.

The action followed checks launched due to the collapse of a suspended ceiling in one of the school's classrooms in April last year.
A school in the village of Saranovo near Rača, attended by about seventy students, was then the scene of an incident in which luckily no one was hurt.

Document fraud
As it is suspected, from March 2024 to April 2025, MG and MP created construction site documentation with untrue content, even though they knew that the works were not performed in accordance with the contract, which enabled the contractor to obtain illegal property benefits, the Ministry of Interior announced.
It is also suspected that BP carried out the works even though it did not meet the prescribed personnel and technical conditions, which is why the works were not carried out in the expected scope, type and quality, but were charged from the state budget.
JM and JR are accused of creating project documentation with untrue data, which showed the incorrect state of the building, it was announced.
In this way, the Ministry of Interior announces, illegal property benefits were obtained from the companies Sloga Construction and SKY gradnja 034 in the amount of 15.076.026 dinars without VAT, while the budget of Serbia was damaged for 21.872.147 dinars without VAT.
